I would try it! Youve nothing to loose. Experimenting with different amt of "turns" both clockwise & (vs) counterclockwise 50/50 chance,may yield best results, to get your set working. I remember yrs ago I had similar success with just a few-turns of small 18 ga solid insulated wire on a very old 28 model Gloritone Cathedral AM set with similar probs. I used a small pc of cardboard ( center of paper towel roll type),..to wrap around the orig coil 1st, then experimented with the new windings in both directions before I acheived success.Go for it!!
