The list of my radio & TV collection!

Probably a clutch (whether magnetic or other); a switch does not work with governor, it is an on-off thing. Governor is an analog regulator. It could pull up a conical gear to change the ratio, or apply friction, whether mechanical or magnetic, but the swicth will onlhy work with some really large integrator, like a very massive disk, a flywheel of a sort, which will absorb the jerk of turn on/off.

Was the phonograph made by Gerrard, it looks like a Gerrard tone arm?

Arran, maybe this player is similar to Gerrard, but it is still the original Marconi. Perhaps there was some cooperation between these companies, but it is hard to believe because as far as I am informed, they were competitors.

Think that was Garrard.

Mike;
You are correct of course, it's "Garrard", must have slipped my mind yesterday. Another popular make was "Collaro" but I don't know how far back those go, apparently they manufactured record changers for Magnavox.

Arran

Friends, I did not find any Gerard automatic changer whose image and design would exactly match my player. If you have a photo or a link, please post them here for comparison. Here is a photo of my Marconi.

Haven't made new videos in quite a while and rarely visit the forum ... Here's a story about my new transistor radio and a short prelude to the history of pocket transistor radios ... Turn on subtitles and watch with English translation

"The launch of the Japanese landing party in the USA and Europe, the Orion Super Eighth TR pocket transistor radio. 1959"

Hello everyone, guys... Due to many problems, I haven't been on the forum for almost six months and I'm very glad that I have this opportunity again... So, during these six months I also made a new video. If anyone is interested, watch and rate it. With the help of Google, I also made English subtitles. I hope Google understood what I meant correctly. Icon_mrgreen Icon_confused

Петро, дуже цiкавий приймач. Ти менi краще вiдповiдай, у тебе все нормально с лiвою рукою? A то ти все однією лiвою рукою робиш.

Ah:
A Emerson made "Personal Set" as they used to call them, I keep my eyes open for those, along with the so called "lunchbox" portables. I just found one of the latter, down in the basement again, that I bought over five years ago, it's a three way portable that you can operate from line voltage. Most post war, and 1950s radios are kind of boring but the portables are not.

Arran

Merry Christmas everyone! My new pre-Christmas video...

What do you think - what is this stylish old suitcase with a secret hiding? Is it an old radio?

Yes! This is an extremely rare English portable radio receiver from Rees Mace, model Gnom L.!!! And you can find out about it in this video.
Merry Christmas, friends ...

I wonder if the Telefunken portable was some inspiration for this one.

Hi Michael. I think it's possible that it's the other way around - a previous model of this radio, which was developed back in 1930, could have been a source of inspiration for the Telefunken designers. After uploading this video to YouTube, one of my subscribers reported in the comments that this radio was a 1947 Gnome L model, manufactured by the British company Rees Mace. And then I found information on the Internet that their very first Gnome model from 1930 was a pioneer of a similar "typewriter case" design.
