I bought on eBay a bit beat up, but solid Philco 37-610 "Bullet", and am in the process of restoring it. This is the 1st video in a series documenting the refinishing. Comments welcome. Rest of the series to post as I make progress. Hope to get this radio restored in time for a Radio Show party at my house on the 29th of October. Chassis restoration is being documented as well, an I'll post that over in the other section soon as I have time to assemble everything for posting. Video is just over 7 minutes long.

Thanks! Appreciate the compliment. My 1st attempt at video documenting any kind of restoration.

Jeff
I just watched your Part 2 video - very good!
Don't use Perfect Brown on the body - the result will be too dark. Use Medium Walnut.

Thanks for the tip, Ron. I don't think I have any on hand. I'll probably have to order it, which will delay me a few days. I wish I could find it locally!

Finally an update. This is actually the last video. I've been so busy with work and the chassis restoration, I haven't had time to edit all my videos until a couple days ago.

And here's a "studio shot" of the for-now-finished radio.

It turned out very nice indeed.
Here is, most likely, the reason why the Medium Walnut was not to your liking on front:
If you apply grain filler without spraying sanding sealer on the wood first, the filler and the liquid will act as a stain.
I think that if you had applied sanding sealer first, you would have been more pleased with the cabinet's appearance with Medium Walnut on front.
Here's my late 1936 model 610T Bullet with a 1936 model 630 chassis inside. I refinished the cabinet three years ago, using the technique outlined above.

I'm not being critical at all, please understand. I am merely suggesting what you might try next time to avoid getting your finish too dark.
In all honesty...I am hoping that my 37-610T late version Big Bullet will turn out as well as yours once I refinish it!

Thanks for the suggestion, Ron. You learn something new everyday, right?
Is there a particular brand you recommend, and you did say it is in a spray can?
How many coats of Medium Walnut did you put down?
I will have to try that on the next refinish job. But we are getting into winter now, so it will be next Spring before I think the weather will be warm enough.
Yours does indeed look nice, Ron! ![Icon_thumbup Icon_thumbup](https://philcoradio.com/phorum/images/smilies/icon_thumbup.gif) And thanks for the compliment! I am pleased with how it turned out. It's far better than my 1st, the 620B, which had no grain filler, and I used stain and poly! ![Icon_redface Icon_redface](https://philcoradio.com/phorum/images/smilies/icon_redface.gif) Now that I know better, I am seriously considering redoing that cabinet if I have time next Spring/Summer.
Cheers, Jeff

Deft makes an excellent lacquer sanding sealer as well as clear spray lacquers. Unfortunately it is no longer sold locally, so I will have to order it online when I run out.
Mohawk makes lacquer sanding sealer as well. Either would be good for you.
I do not remember if I put two coats of Medium Walnut on my 610T, or three. I think it was two.
It looks like it is going to stay warm here for at least another week, so tonight...I started on my 37-610 late version 38-624T Big Bullet cabinet. We shall see if I can finish it before the weather becomes too cold for lacquering.
