Crosley 577
#1

All, I just picked up a Crosley 577 radio from Antique store in Kutztown.. Paid 10.00

But my luck it uses a Resistive cord again.. So need to know what resistor and or cap to use .. Here is schematic I drew up for Filament string..

PS here is a picture of front..I like the dial..

If you use a diode and resistor =33ohms @ abt 10w (actual dissipation abt 3w)
Just a resistor 150 ohms @ 20w or better.

When my pals were reading comic books
I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts
Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to
figure out what all those squiggly meant.
Circa 1966
Now I think I've got!

Nice little set Skip, small is good for space considerations.

Good luck.

That's the first time that I've seen an AC/DC radio actually proclaiming that it was "AC-DC" on the front, right on the dial yet!

You can use a diode to drop the line voltage. Use a 1N4004 and place a zener diode of the correct voltage across the dial lamp. Forget about trying to use a resistor. You will not find one that will disparate the heat that will not damage the cabinet. I have replaced several resistance line cords this way. Just make sure you install the diode and zener with the correct polarity.

I just dug one of these out to work on. Mine is the same only does not say "Fiver" or "AC DC".

Chassis in great shape cabinet needs ALL new veneer, but it won't be hard.

These seem to be rare with round mirror dial. In the "Super" series yet it does not say Super 5.

Bill already did a nice job getting 70 volts.

Ah, another "curtain burner."

On the Phorum is a video from a NEVEC member on the correction for these sites, now if I can find it....

Mine is the "early" version. I'll probably veneer the cabinet tomorrow. Also the diode - resistor dropper that Bill had already installed is neat and almost unnoticeable. I'll try and get pics. I was looking for a picture of the cabinet top. Veneer is gone on mine and the top was painted brown. Also damage to the front/sides veneer. So I'll just do it all.

A cap, unless you want to keep it AC/DC.
Most times it is 6.8uF.
Calc it if needed.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.
