Where would you start
#1

This is the old Philco 37-61F that I have. My question is if you were going to clean up this cabinet what would you use to clean it up? From the looks of it I don't think that it needs a restoration job but what do more knowledgeable people think?

How's the top and sides? Front doesn't look that bad. After removing everything that is not wood, I would remove all the accumulated crud with mineral spirits with paper towels, and then have another look. This would be the conservative method, you could always touch up or build and then color up imperfections with some filler and artists oils, wait a long time and then then apply a lacquer finish. As always "It depends."

Top and sides are okay too. In searching past posts I've seen what seems to be a zillion ways of cleaning a radio cabinet. Is cleaning it with a soft rag and GOJO, then using a touch-up furniture marker for scratches and then applying a good paste wax a good way to go or not?

Hi radio64. Your method sounds fine. So does codefox's Icon_smile It certainly seems to be in nice overall condition. Can't say I've ever seen a 37-61 console version before.

That link led to an Easter basket listing of everything available on the market. Which of them are you recommending, Señor Denver?

Anyway....i'd certainly try restoring the original finish before anything else. If it was my radio I know I could and would. Some folks want it to look brand new. I can do that too but I'd prefer not to. Its an old radio and only needs to be made presentable and keep the wife off your back Icon_smile .

Clean/wax would be my choice.
