Philco 21
#1

So, here are some pictures.....

I need one small knob

The front is bowed out a little

Here's the underside

will post more of the backside when I get the chance...

If you want to replace any of the cabinet parts like the baseboard or front panel give Steve Davis a holler. Does great work and prices are reasonable. Mine needed a front panel, baseboard, rear arch, and base trim.

When my pals were reading comic books
I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts
Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to
figure out what all those squiggly meant.
Circa 1966
Now I think I've got!

Here's some more, of the back; uncleaned as found condition of course...
Wonder what that hole is for on the top arch?

notice that shim (on right side only) holding the chassis up?
the shaft holes in the front are not centered, wondering whats going on!

lots of tree leaves and junk
the 3 tubes left to right are 45, 80, and UX-245

I'd have a look at this instead of the Rider's:  https://philcoradio.com/library/index.ph...-model-21/  It's more accurate and comprehensive.

Congratulations!  Finding a model 21 is almost like winning the lottery.  They had a very short production time, giving way to the 70 and 90 models.  Worthy of restoration regardless of the "found" condition.  Take care, Gary

Yes!  you know what they say; even a blind squirrel....finds a nut once in a while!  I intend to restore carefully, and not overdo it...my son will do the cabinet work, and I will stumble through the electrics....

The 21 is more or less the 20 that looks like the 70.
More so, the early run used the 20 chassis.
So most of its value is in is rarity rather than the performance or the looks.

I wouldn't mind having one to enhance the early Philco models line I have. But I know exactly how it's going to sound. Icon_smile Cause I got the rest of them.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.
