Canadian console 37-361A
#1

Hello,
New to the forum.  Working on the cabinet of a Canadian Philco 37-361A console.  Anyone have the same radio and a picture that shows the colour scheme for the front in particular?  I'm relying on Mohawk Perfect Brown for the main panels.  I'm assuming only decal was "PHILCO" ?

Thanks

Assuming the 37-361AF looks like the American 37-61F -

Also look at the identical 37-60F -

Correct, the only decal used was the PHILCO trademark.

Be aware the front panel is photofinish - once it is stripped, that faux "veneer" is gone forever.

Mine is a little different, I'll post a picture once I get the grille cloth in.  Too late regarding the original faux finish, someone painted the centre of the cabinet (where the dial and controls are) with brown paint, but luckily it came off with stripper.  Used some toner and got a blending effect, rather accidentally.

Could I confirm the model type of decal that Radio Daze sells for a 1937 model? Thanks

It would have used DCL-PH8 (early production) or DCL-PH1 (later production).

Back together today.  Other than replacing capacitors, nothing required in terms of the chassis.

That radio looks GREAT ! Icon_thumbup  Congratulations ! If it is anything like the 37-61B I restored some years ago, it is going to be a good performer for what it is, especially if you have a decent antenna for it.

I like it a nice and simple console radio. Does anyone else have one to let us know how it is as a performer radio. I like the looks of the console.. Icon_thumbup

The grille bars, and bottom skirt/molding would have been shaded darker I think, though I've never seen an example of this exact model. I am guessing that the sides had a sort of false panel where they would have had the center a lighter shade, then the border, as differentiated by the grooves, this was a popular thing on the cabinets of many Canadian sets, but the U.S version has an actual plywood panel in the side, I'm guessing the Canadian ones is solid wood with a veneer on top. Canadian Philcos tended to follow similar design trends with their U.S counterparts when it came to shading, even if the cabinets themselves differed in millwork, or in marquetry, but also reflected local trends. There were some 1936 Canadian Philco consoles that had stubby feet where the U.S versions did not, but the cabinets were shaded in a similar as the skirted U.S models.

Arran
