Philco 90 question
#1

Hi all,
I am, after many years of looking, the proud owner of a Philco 90 baby grand! I have wanted this set since I was a freshman in high school, but have never found one that I could afford. The ones I've seen that I could afford were past any help I could give it. I finally found a good restorable one on Ebay for $200 bucks! I want to do the best restoration I possibly can on it. The cabinet is in good shape as is the chassis. However there are several areas on the chassis with a fair amount of rust on it. I want to clean off the rust and my question is. What is the correct finish for the chassis? Were they plated with something? The chassis on the two 70's I have are a dull lead gray color, was this the color when new or were they shiny? Is it acceptable to paint the chassis? If so, is there a paint/color that closely approximates the original finish?
I guess I just want to do what is considered correct, so any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Only my opinion, but the early sets chassis almost look like they were a parkerized finish, similar to what you would see on some military weapons.
