So what was this chassis made of? Aluminum, steel? Is it galvanized? I'm looking to repaint it and the coil covers since they were in bad shape, at least to my eye. Was the original shinny?

Hi Jim

The chassis was steel; the coil covers were aluminum. No, the original steel was not shiny, more "flat" rather than glossy.
