This had been on kijiji for about a week when I finally saw it. I drove the 300 miles to pick it up. The finish is in very very good condition, and the radio does work but it will need a recap and the motorboard needs to be cleaned.. All in all it is a nice radio,,one that I have been looking for.

Gorgeous. It'd be nice to see a close-up of the dial... Regards, Joe

Joe ,,I will take a few photos of the dial and post them tomorrow .. Thanks for the comments.
I have the motorboard out and there are about ten wires that have to be unhooked ,in order to get it out. It's going to be quite a project.

Thanks Dan, keep us posted! I've become interested in RCA products when I recently obtained a 77V2 that had been in my Grandmothers house. The cabinet was well cared for, though it'll need a complete recapping and some rewiring. I'll post a photo when I get a moment. Best Regards, Joe

Joe ,here are some photos of the dial and I am including one of the lable that is on the bottom of the motor board..
I can see that this one is going to take some work.. I don't mean a lot of problems but there are a lot of wires that seem to go everywhere.. If anyone has a wiring diagram of the motorboard I would like to see it. I do have the schematics but I don't have anything showing how the mororboard connects to the amp,and someone had disconnected the wires....Dan

Dan, Thanks, this is really awesome, and the detail on the wood is great. A really great find! Joe

You'll find that this is a very nice set. I see that someone has refinished the cabinet, but not a horrible job.
When the pickup is back in good shape, the output of this set on phono is very good. While this set is similar to the RCA Radiola 86, they put a hotter coil in the pickup than was in the Radiola 86. Both the VICTOR (The RCA name was not on the RE-57; just Victor) RE-57 and the Radiola 86 were sold as parallel product lines in the stores.
There should be a single button carbon microphone, and a pickup head weight with the set for home recording (which can't be done today, anyhow). There is a position on the selector switch on the motor board for "Public Address" if one cared to blab over the radio with the mike.
As on most of the RCA amplifiers of that day, and considerably later, the interstage transformer will have open windings. There might be a replacement on yours.

That set may be as late as 1931 if it is a Canadian made Victor. For whatever reason, contractual obligations to dealers I suppose, there were sets marketed under the "Victor" name in Canada as late as 1935. I had a "Victor" 118 and it was from 1934-35, and it did not have the RCA name or logo anywhere on it.
Be careful lifting that set, A fellow collector I knew in the Edmonton area nearly gave himself a hernia trying to move one up the basement stairs.

I have the motorboard out and I cleaned it up.. When it was refinished ,no one had marked any of the wires that go to the motor.
I do have all the schematics for the radio but none of it contains any refrence to wiring or connections to the motorboard.
There are also wires that go to the switches connected to the turntable for the shutoff controlled by the arm..and I don't know where to hook them up.
If anyone has information at all [/i]about these connections please email me ,,
Thanks Dan
