Philco 37-116 Auto Tuning
#1

I am working on a 37-116 with auto tuning. The fine and speed knobs turn the tuning cap fine but the dial doesn't move. The auto tuning mechanism turns the dial fine but there is no connection to the cap.

In looking on Chuck's site and the service bulletin it looks as if there is a small pin (#22) that connects the 2 parts. I have looked all around the outside of the vernier drive housing and I can't find a pin. What am I missing?

Do you have any suggestions for me about how to proceed with this repair? I would sincerely appreciate any advice before I try to tear things apart.

Thanks,

In looking further I have found that the autotuning mechanism is driven by a small gear and pinion and the set screw wasn't holding. The center chassis mounting rubber grommets are badly worn and need replacing. The worn grommets cause the chassis to sag and the tuning cap gets out of alignment and caused the mechanism to turn with difficulty.

Does anyone know where I can get 3 of these special grommets?

Thanks,
Don

Just an update on the grommets. I found a link on Philco Repair Bench to Ed's Radio and found all the grommets I need.

Thanks Don, I have never torn the magnetic tuning models apart even though I have about 7 of them so I couldn't comment/help you. It's nice to know the grommets are available I also know the end of the shaft gets worn a bit and you need to dress it up and relube it (Chucks site). I have the 38-116 and 38-690 but one of these days I need to get a 37-116 also.
