511 Issue
#1

Hey Phorum,
I've completed restoring the 511 and the set is working although at a very low volume (set is grounded/using a 20-ft antenna/tried 2 good 80s/have not yet attempted neutralization).
I cannot identify the connections on the transformer, but it says that terminals 1-3 should be 375 V-AC.  Only 2 of my terminals have high voltage, but only 190 V-AC.

Interestingly enough, I bought a complete junker 511 for parts and it also shows 190 V on the transformer at the same 2 positions....is this coincidence or did both transformers go bad the same way?  Is it definitely bad?  I've never rebuilt a transformer before....should I try this or look for another?  Any help is appreciated.

1.Pull out the 80 tube.
2. In the panel for this tube Measure voltage on AC setting between the two sockets for the NARROW pins (the Fats are filament). You should have your voltage there.

Thanks Morzh..you're always a big help. I am good then at 380V. I just got done checking the voltages against the schematic and all are perfect for 1st/2nd/3rd RF/Detector/ and 2nd AF but I get zero DC plate voltage at the 1st AF. I checked and there is voltage at point "E" so I guess I have an open A.F. transformer. I haven't messed with one of these yet. Anyone have advice on repair?
Also, all resistances are good on the candohm but I'm getting voltage at all resistor terminals except terminal 5 (no voltage; not sure what that means).
Thanks fellas-

Yep you got it, open primary, darn it.
Repair - if you can open it and see if this is the case of oxidation when the magnet wire is broken right where it solders to lug/output wire, then yes, but the likelyhood of it is low and the repair then is either acquiring the new one (a used good one), or rewinding the old, whether yourself or by paying someone.

Go look in Oldradioparts.com to see if he carries this one.

After disassembling I think I'll replace with a new one this time around...thanks for the help Terry and Morzh!

Thanks again guys....the output transformer is in and it actually sounds better than my philco 90 or 111 with a 15 ft antenna....original speaker too!

Nice setup.

What is this transformer right of the speaker?

Looks Goood.

That's the dead transformer. Ironic as it is, it seems that one of my coils may have gone open in my 90 yesterday as the music keeps cutting out for a few minutes at a time. I only rewound the one open coil when I restored it...knew that decision would come back to bite me in the butt. Back to the 90 again.
Take it easy guys-
