I'm a happy camper tonight.
Acquired a complete 41-300 console from the Olney, Illinois auction today. The chassis is missing an IF can shield, and the speaker is badly torn.
SO...this cabinet will be the new home for the working 41-300/315 chassis and speaker I recently acquired - thank you again, Terry; as Maynard G. Krebs used to say, you're a great American and a heck of a good sport.
The cabinet will need a bit of work, but at least I can go ahead and use the radio.
Will post a photo in the near future. You know the drill...gotta finish this roll of film.

Wow! I picked up a 41 300 today at an antique store in Laporte Indiana
today. There is a small chip in the veneer on the folding lid but it plays
great. I hope to find out more about this radio. After I got it home I
realized it was much larger than I had thought. It's very cool.
oops,I just realized its a new day. I got it yesterday.

Coincidence? Or maybe yesterday was the day for a couple 41-300 sets to pop out of the woodwork?

Here's an open and closed view of the 41-300:

I now have the chassis I acquired from Terry in this cabinet, and it sounds GREAT.

Trying to check tubes today in my 41-300. I can't see the numbers on the tubes. Is there a diagram
that shows what tube is what?
Haven't been to this site for awhile. Spending time on the ham bands.
Thanks

Ron, since many of the newbies here dont know who "maynard g krebs" was, thought I better offer abit more info on Gilligan.

If I remember correctly, the "professor" on Gilligans Island was a fairly good radio tech? Or was it the Skipper? :

Mostly it was the professor, altho the Skipper had buried in his subconscious instructions for constructing a radio transmitter, and such was the plot for one of the 1st. season b&w episodes, to get him to drop off to sleep so he could remember how and prevent Gilligan from fouling things up. There was a large Hallicrafters receiver on the show at one point, perhaps a S-40.

I haven't my '41 service notes handy, but is this the '41 counterpart of the 42-400? I've had one of those since 1948. I bought it from the original lowner, and it's languished in my bedroom for all that time. The first radio I ever heard FM on.

Hi Doug
Yes. Only the 41-300 does not have the old FM band; instead, it has AM and three SW bands.

Thanks. If I'm not mistooken, Philco didn't have FM in '41.
I've always sort of chuckled about it, but RCA was so committed to TV through the thirties, Sarnoff completely shut out FM before the war, and there were no RCA FM receivers prewar.

I had tried several times on ebay to purchase one of the these radios but seem to always end up as a dollar short on the bids, so I finally just gave up. I always thought they would be a decent sounding and a decent performing radio if restored.
