Philco 18 code 121 RF coil rewind
#1

I am new to the phorum and am in the process of restoring a Philco Model 18 Code 121.  I already knew that some of the rf coils would have open primaries, and on this model it is the detector transformer #10 which is supposed to measure 3.7 ohms and the oscillator transformer #16 which is supposed to measure 3.4 ohms.
On the repair bench website I have read the service hints article on the rewinding of these coils. The only models listed are the 20, 70, using 32 gauge and the 90 using 34 gauge.  It is hard to determine from the original windings as they are really rough.
I would like to know if anyone has rewound the coils on a model 18 and what gauge enamel wire did you use and turns involved?
Any and all help is very much appreciated!

Welcome to the Phorum!! Have not rewound an 18 but someone will chime in here I'm sure. One caution often repeated here....make note of the direction of the winding!

Today wire of the same gauge might be a bit thicker due to thicker warnish coating.
Still you could simply use calipers and the gauge table to see what it was.
I think I used gauge 32 on most of my Philco (and others) RF coils.

Simply count turns and note winding direction. Make sketches, always helpful and is something to fall back on when you forget how it was before.
Those are simple 1-layer coils, no magic to it.

Ask if you need to bake the bobbins in this particilar case before you wind.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.
