wax paper capacitor suggestions
#1

what type of capacitor should I use to replace the wax paper caps in my radio ?
#2

I think most of us use the yellow mylar film capacitors...cheap, reliable, and small enough that they may be hidden inside the shells of the old paper capacitors if desired.

Agreed. You can get them from a number of sources, Bob's Antique Radios, justradios.com are two that come quickly to mind.

I also use a number of the radial lead types when not restuffing and when they seem to fit better. The DME-series from Mouser.com is an example.

Hi Jerm,

I get mine from http://www.radiodaze.com/ Never had a problem with them and good folks to talk to on the phone. You usually get your parts in 3 to 4 days. Like exray said there are many good places to get caps.

The tubular "yellow caps" and the molded film types will fit inside the bakelite block caps too when you re-build them:

I usually place a big order a few times a yr., qty 10 or more of each value of the most-needed "orange dips" & all my electrolytics from some very nice folks (Dave & Babylon Cantelon) in Canada. Very compact sizes of all types capacitors, and have never had one fail in over 8 yrs. Very nice selection also in all voltage ratings & ufs, uufs etc! Very fast shipping & receiving at my Texas location also!! They also accept paypal & have online order form. They usually throw-in a couple extras and some free small heat-shrink as well !! Dave also offers many other parts & services.
