Starting another Philco
#1

I should have learned but like these radios, you might have seen the lovely 111 I had finished and the nice lady wanted back. Well had a space and this is what I'm starting on now. A Philco 90 single ended 47. It should take the place when the nice lady comes back to pick up the 111. I will be asking for some help, already ordered from Chuck the proper schematics and sent the 1st detector coil off to Ron. This one at least I could see some green on.
Hope you will help me on the restoration. Probably some questions on the cabinet forum and certainly a few on this. So far as I can see, both electrolytic caps have been replaced with well, things not right. I might have a donor chassis located with the right ones. Underneath, several parts hanging in the air. Appears a couple of block caps went South and were bypassed. More details to sort.
Well let's enjoy the journey.

Looking good Jerry!

Looks pretty good under there Jerry.
The metal cans can be restuffed. The dogbones will probably be way off spec.
As with any set that's been worked on before, one must trace their work and be sure things are correct.
The cabinet is beautiful.

Thanks gang, other than a little touch up on the feet of the cabinet and one small veneer patch, I do believe a good cleaning and waxing should do the trick. Even the top looks great, must have come from a family that didn't like potted plants. Icon_lol

Well, when I picked it up they had it "playing", could almost hear a station or two, hopefully the coil sent off to Ron for a rewind will let it do a little better, while they were searching for stations I asked them politely to "turn it off". I was happy to hear what I did but don't push your luck!

Well, waiting for the coil rewind and Chucks service information. If anyone out there has a scrap chassis with the original e-caps, I could certainly use those. Seems my semi local guy that has one on C/L doesn't answer phone calls any more. Also use a couple bakelite blocks, when they bypassed two of them, the broke off the terminals. Hate that kind of work but that is how it went years ago when fixing radios with the least amount of labor and no concern about how it looked underneath. Now we seem to be more anal about repairs. Will start another thread after taking some pics of the cabinet, and specifically some questions about the grill cloth. I think my wife can save it but the idea is a little new to her. Terrific sewing but grill cloth repair is a little new to her.
