Philco 49-1606 AM/FM/phono console
#1

I found this Philco 49-1606 AM/FM/record player console buried in a pile of stuff at a closed TV shop and was able to buy it for a reasonable price.

The main thing that attracted me to this model was the dual tonearm record changer. One tonearm plays 78's and the lighter tonearm plays LP's. I wish it would play 45's; but, it will be easy enough to use a Y-adapter and plug in one of those RCA 45 rpm attachments.

I've not done anything, other than examine the inside of the radio. It is a power transformer-less set that uses two selenium rectifiers in a voltage doubler configuration.

I figure this will be a decent performing unit once I get it restored.

It's a cool modern look. The book matched mahogany crotch veneer is striking.
