Atwater Kent model H speaker
#1

Found this in an antique shop in eastern Indiana today. Working but very weak. I'll try to re- magnetize it and see if that helps.

What sort of audio source did you use to test it?

That's a high impedance speaker designed to operate directly from the plate of the output tube, so if you connected to the usual radio output transformer, the audio will be very low.

I plugged it into my 1925 Liberty Five TRF. Five 01A tubes. With my Brandes Table Talker speaker it has good volume. When I attached the AK-H, it was very low. The 9v battery test yielded similar results between the two speakers.

Haven't been able to unscrew the driver yet, stuck tight even after a WD 40 application and letting it sit for a few days. I had been testing it out again on the Liberty Five and it seems about twice as loud as it was when I first got it home. Still quite a bit lower volume than my Brandes Table Talker, but at least listenable now. I can only guess that by running voltage thru it for a while the magnet must have been re-magnetized somewhat.

Careful with that! For some reason many of the AK speakers that I have come in ctc with have this problem.

Recommend you take your time, it is easy to ruin the threads on the horn.
