Help: Philco-Ford Console Stereo
#1

Hello I am new to this forum and to Philco/Philco-Ford in general.

I recently acquired a Philco-Ford solid state stereo console and I have been restoring it. I will include a bunch of pictures at the end of this post.

Question 1: I have no idea what kind of stereo it is - does anyone know the model?

Question 2: Everything appears to work. But I think I am missing the needle for the turntable (I have no idea). I have never used a turntable before (I am just 24). Does anyone know where I can get a replacement needle and how to install it?

Thank you for any help,

Seth

It is not a needle - it is called "cartridge". Modern (OK, they are no longer modern but they lingered 'till end of 90s, that makes them modern) turntables use them, and they are electromagnetic pickups.

Examples:

Some of the tone arms have sockets to connect, some have wires with clips that will go on the cartrige's pins.
Go online, type in "turntable cartrige", contact the seller, give them the model and see if they recommend something.

Actually, Morzh, the cartridge appears to still be there - the stylus (proper terminology for what some folks call needle) is missing.

Without a model number for the unit, there is no way to know...???

OK if it is there (yes I know the stilus word - just do not use a cartridge with a separate stilus) then

Thing is I use the single piece cartrige, with no separable stilus. THose are sold as one unit. Although yes, I used to own one with separable...they are a bit inferior, and the price often shows it.

Seth,
Welcome to the Phorum. Pull the unit away from the wall and see if there any numbers/letters on the back of the cabinet. The model number might be back there.
